Somathai™
Somathai™ is rooted in Thai bodywork and shaped by contemporary somatic practice.
It brings together the rhythm and relational nature of Thai bodywork with an understanding of how the nervous system adapts to pressure, responsibility, and long periods of holding.
At the center of this work is a simple recognition.
The body adapts to survive.
And with enough safety and support, it can begin to reorganize.
Nothing is forced.
Instead, attention is placed on what is already present. Through rhythm, compression, movement, and touch, the nervous system is supported in finding more ease, more coherence, and more choice.
Whether in sessions or trainings, the orientation remains consistent:
Notice where effort is being held
Support regulation before increasing intensity
Work rhythmically rather than forcefully
Follow sensation rather than override it
Allow change to unfold at a pace the system can integrate
THE FOUNDER
Sarah Seely is the founder of Somathai™ and Thai Brooklyn, with over 30 years of experience in movement, bodywork, and somatic education.
Her work is rooted in a simple belief: the body is not a problem to be fixed, but a living, intelligent system that is constantly communicating through sensation, movement, breath, tension, and release. For more than two decades, she has helped people reconnect with that intelligence through touch, movement, and embodied awareness.
Sarah's path began in movement. She holds a BA in Dance from UMBC and an MFA in Dance from Smith College, where her graduate work focused on kinesiology and injury prevention. She later completed advanced training in Thai bodywork through Lotus Palm and ITM Thailand, and became certified as both a Somatic Therapist and Somatic Coach through The Somatic Therapy Center and The Strozzi Institute. She is also a 500-hour certified yoga teacher, certified personal trainer, Reiki Master, and practicing herbalist.
Over the years, she has studied with numerous teachers carrying the Thai healing lineage forward with care and integrity, while continuing her education in bodywork, osteopathic principles, somatic practice, and nervous system regulation.
Today, Sarah's work brings together decades of study, clinical experience, and hands-on practice into an approach that is both structured and responsive. Whether working with clients one-on-one or training practitioners through Somathai™, her focus is on helping people develop greater awareness, capacity, and trust in their own experience.
Her work is grounded in the understanding that lasting change does not come from forcing the body to change, but from creating the conditions that allow it to reorganize itself. Through skilled touch, movement, presence, and relationship, she helps people reconnect with themselves in ways that are practical, sustainable, and deeply human.
